Studio and On Location

From Chicago Studio to Any Setting

Our Chicago studio is set up for a wide range of lifestyle scenarios: kitchen and bathroom setups, styled flat lays, tabletop scenes, and multi-surface arrangements. We have the space, the lighting, and the experience to build environments that read as natural, not staged.

For shoots that need a real-world environment, we also work on location around Chicago. The right choice depends on the look you're going for and what your brand calls for. We'll work through it with you during pre-production.

Context Drives Conversion

A product on a white background tells a customer what they're buying. A lifestyle image tells them how it fits into their life. Both are important, but lifestyle imagery is what builds brand connection, drives social engagement, and supports the storytelling side of ecommerce: Amazon A+ content, brand story pages, and editorial placements.

This service is built for brands that need their products shown in real-world context, not just isolated on white: think Amazon A+ content, Shopify brand pages, social ads, and editorial placements. We work with brands of all sizes, from emerging direct-to-consumer labels building their first campaign to established national brands refreshing their visual library. What the best clients have in common is knowing what their lifestyle images need to do.

How We Decide Where to Shoot

Studio gives us control: consistent lighting regardless of weather or time of day, no permits or access logistics, and the ability to reshoot a setup immediately if something's off. It's the more efficient choice for most lifestyle work, and our West Town space is built to fake a convincing kitchen, bathroom, or tabletop scene without anyone knowing it's a studio.

Location gives us something a set can't fully replicate: real architecture, real light, a specific neighborhood or building that means something to the brand. It costs more in planning (permits, access, weather contingencies) and takes longer to prep, but the payoff is authenticity a built set can't quite match.

We'll ask what the images need to communicate and what your budget and timeline allow, then recommend one or a mix of both. Most brands don't know which they need before that conversation, and that's fine, it's what pre-production is for.

Props and Set Styling

Building a Scene That Feels Real

We keep an in-house inventory of surfaces, backgrounds, and general styling props, and we source specific pieces for your shoot when the brief calls for something we don't already have on hand. Styling is what separates a lifestyle shot that reads as authentic from one that reads as a product plunked onto a random surface: the props, the surface texture, the incidental objects in frame all need to feel like they belong there, not staged around the product.

You're welcome to bring your own props, especially anything brand-specific or hard to source generically. We'll talk through what's needed during pre-production, decide what we're sourcing versus what you're bringing, and make sure nothing gets figured out for the first time on shoot day.

Common Questions

Straightforward answers to the questions we hear most often about lifestyle product photography.

What lifestyle setups does your Chicago studio support?

Our West Town studio can be configured for kitchen and bathroom scenes, styled flat lays, tabletop arrangements, product-in-hand shots, and a variety of surface and background setups. We have access to a broad range of props, surfaces, and styling materials. If you have something specific in mind, share a reference image and we'll tell you what's possible.

Can you shoot lifestyle photography on location in Chicago?

Yes. For shoots that need a specific real-world environment, whether that's an urban street, a residential interior, or an outdoor setting, we can work on location around Chicago and the surrounding area. On-location work requires more logistics planning, so we work through that carefully in pre-production.

What's the difference between lifestyle and commercial photography?

Lifestyle photography puts products in environments and tells a story through context. Commercial photography can include lifestyle elements, but it's more broadly focused on campaign imagery, brand storytelling, and advertising use cases. The two often overlap, and many shoots combine both approaches.

Who provides the props and styling?

We keep an in-house inventory of surfaces, backgrounds, and general styling props, and we source specific items for your shoot when the brief calls for something we don't already have. You're welcome to bring your own props too, especially anything brand-specific. We'll talk through what's needed during pre-production so nothing gets improvised on shoot day.

Can you shoot at our office or a client-provided location?

Yes. If you have a specific space that fits the shoot, whether that's your office, a retail location, or another site, we can work there. We'll do a quick assessment of the space beforehand (lighting conditions, available power, general layout) so we show up prepared rather than figuring it out on arrival.

Do you work with models for lifestyle shots?

Yes, when a shot calls for a hand, a body in motion, or a person interacting with the product. We can source models through our local network or work with talent you provide. Model needs should be locked in during pre-production, the same as any other part of the shot list.
